brb goin 2 otakon

I'm back in the US and it feels good. Seeing part of Europe was lovely but I missed my bed and friends.
Leaving for Otakon tomorrow! My Cecile cosplay is all done.

Anyone who is going and is reading this (probably nobody is) should go to the panel Giant Monsters A Go-Go, Friday at 8:00 PM!

On vacation!

I was in Hungary a few days ago and I bought a Raikov hat. I'm in Austria now, and I'll be going to Germany in 2 days.

Vacaaaaaaaaaaation :-) :-) It's great when it's not a heat wave.

IF SO, I HAVE TWO PEACE WALKER UNIQLO T-SHIRTS, JAPAN SIZE SMALL, THAT I AM SELLING.

THEY ARE US$15.50 + SHIPPING, THROUGH PAYPAL.
I CAN SHIP ANYWHERE, BUT PREFERABLY USA OR CANADA.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED LEAVE ME A COMMENT OR MESSAGE.

I finished Peace Walker last night. In short: it was awesome, co-op is awesome, you should get it.

Also, if anyone from CAPSLOCK is reading this, I'll probably stop by Uniqlo within the next few days and will pick up some PW shirts if anyone wants them but is too far away to get one.

And now, time to grade my predictions. Obviously, there are lots of spoilers to the end of chapter five.
I was very very wrongCollapse )

BRB PEACE WALKER

A lot has happened in my life since the last time I posted. I graduated and got a really good grade this semester, probably the best final grade I had since elementary school when I used to be smart for my age. Then I sat around watching Eurovision, which was fun and since it's in Germany next year I'll try to go.

But for now...

BRB PEACE WALKER
What would I do without stores that break street date?

May sickness

I know it sounds stupid, but I wish I could make more internet friends. I try hard to get involved in fandom related things but honestly I'm too lazy and nervous to write anything -- it's difficult enough writing for school. I'm graduating next Saturday (!) so I won't have to worry about school interfering with anything anymore. I'm scared of not being close to my friends anymore and I need more people to talk to on AIM.

The most fannish thing I wrote and completed recently was a paper on Twilight that I got an A on, which I'll post after my final grades come back.

Also it's so difficult avoiding Peace Walker spoilers. I've had probably half the game spoiled due to my lack of will power and it just increases the hype even more. I started work on my Cecile cosplay, but by "started work" I mean "bought shoes off eBay."

After taking a look at my userpics: 6 are male, 3 are female, 1 is object, and the ones I use most are male. How strange. I always identify more with female fictional characters, but I guess the male images I chose are more expressive. Note to self: redo most of the icons.

Peace Walker Predictions

I’m going to make my predictions for Peace Walker now, a week before its release in Japan, so that I can kick myself when they are horribly wrong later/feel smug when they turn out to be right.

I have the opportunity to write a paper about Castlevania, in what could be my last paper in my last undergraduate class. Now all I need is a topic...

This class blurs the line between meta and academic writing. It's academic writing because I get a grade on it, but if one is writing an essay on Twilight (which I will be doing within a week or two), it feels more appropriate to post it on a forum or community. All of my classes this semester have been pretty fun and allowed me to write ridiculously geeky things.

Also, I'm going to Otakon. I know nobody reads this but I feel like I should mention it just in case, because it seems a few other capslock_mgs people are.

Beyonetta

Have I really not posted in a month in a half?
An update: I spent my winter break playing Tekken 6 and Bayonetta. Very little writing.

Bayonetta really surprised me. It's so over the top and packed with references to other games. I've tried to avoid reading critiques of the character design, which culminated in me trying to argue with what was probably a troll on GameFAQs about how Bayonetta is pretty much a drag queen. What else is Bayonetta (the game) than an over-the-top homage to femininity?

Also, the ending dance sequence is amazingly cheesy and was a little embarrassing to watch at first: I just spend hours fighting angel monsters and I get rewarded with three and a half minutes of sexy dancing? But then I realized that this was a golden opportunity for AMVS. The lack of lyrics and thus lack of lip-synching means that one could just put another song over the video and have it fit. I spent a few hours playing around with the video on Tubedubber and found that while many songs work with that dance, Beyonce's uptempo songs work the best. For example: "Radio" or "Sweet Dream".

In other news, the semester started so lately I've been reading and writing a lot for class. Sometimes I get to talk about moderately geeky things but no excuse to write a paper on them yet. I've also been taking a short fiction writing class which is nice because I can write 500+ word things in 1-2 days and have them not be immediately awful, but it limits any fanfiction writing for this semester.
